Platform Publications interviews the One African Child Foundation

Meet the organisation impacting the lives of disadvantaged children in Africa and providing them with quality education: One African Child Foundation

One African Child foundation for creative learning was established on November 13th 2013. The aim of this non-governmental organisation has been to reach out to underserved communities which have large numbers of disadvantaged children who have no access to quality education.

In Founder and Director of OAC Victoria’s words:

“Many of these children do not know how to speak basic English or work basic math. And the fact that we talk about raising global citizens, we must admit that the basic thing that can connect you to the world is to be able to learn basic literacy…”

The organisation is youth led and many of its volunteers are young individuals from Nigeria and other parts of Africa.

Although the volunteers are spread around the world, One African Child still provides a safe space for each and every one of these volunteers to impact whenever they find themselves. The name One African Child was born out of the willingness to impact the lives of African children one at a time.

The beauty of an organisation such as this is that they are not just focused on reaching large numbers of children, but they are looking to sustainability and so the organisation tries as much as possible to limit each project done to 20-50 children to ensure impact is made. One Africa Child provides the children with leadership skills and the needed resources that would equip them to be agents of change in their societies. The organisation currently has physical presence in Nigeria, Benin republic and Kenya.

ONE AFRICAN CHILD AND PLATFORM PUBLICATIONS: THE COLLABORATION

As a way of contributing to the great work being carried out by One African Child foundation, Platform Publications are in partnership with the organisation moving forward to create a positive impact on the young individuals. As such, our medium together with one African child has launched a creative writing competition for the children.

We at Platform believe that doing this would not only expose the children to the power within themselves, but also exposes them to a whole new world of opportunities and experiences.

The winner will have a chance to be published in our debut magazine, amongst our established writers and artist! Head over to our Instagram @platform_publications for the details.

We at Platform Publications believe in making positive changes, and do not want to pass up an opportunity to make an impact! That's why we're raising £500 in the next 2 months to donate to the incredible organisation and to purchase more resources for the students.

Any amount is appreciated, donate here: https://gofund.me/ce1b8b92

Editor’s note: Munya Mwaijumba and Amna Akram

This is a brilliant idea with a clear goal in mind. Being able to provide aid to young, vulnerable children in Africa in a way that encourages creativity is something that can get lots of people involved to create a positive change. The article itself explains the foundation well and builds and anticipation in trying to get involved.

Here at Platform Publications, the collaboration with One African Child Foundation will not only be a milestone for the medium in helping a young person be active in their education as we all know how important it is for shaping our thoughts and realities. But also having the the opportunity to interact with our followers by understanding what work they like the most from the creative competition is going to make the experience much better.
